Inconvenience store and other cool silent films

There has been a lot of recent interest in silent films since Michel Hazanavicius from France wrote and directed the film The Artist back in 2011. This film won Five Academy Awards including Best Motion Picture of the Year,  Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Achievement in Costume Design and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures – Original Score.

This film was also nominated for another five Academy Awards including Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role,  Best Writing – Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Film Editing and Best Achievement in Art Direction.

There is a very creative short silent film made by Grand Theft Auto V fan and silent film enthusiast sneaverson called Inconvenient store that you can watch right here.

Harold Lloyd’s comedies were hugely successful back in the day and you can still enjoy them today. Here is Safety Last from 1923.

Remember, without the film Metropolis directed by Fritz Lanz, there are no Star Trek, nor Star Wars. This was the first science fiction film. Metropolis is a futuristic dystopia and at the time it was the most expensive film ever made. If you happen to speak German, you can watch it here.

If you were not alive in 1996, you are probably not familiar with this music video which is one of the best I have ever seen. In fact, this music video was the winner of six MTV Music Awards including Video of the Year, Best Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Breakthrough Video.

Here is the music video by the Smashing Pumpkins which is based on the film A trip to the moon.  If you have never seen A trip to the moon, I recommend you to see the original silent film first and then the music video.
